Wimbledon Foundation

The Wimbledon Foundation is the charity of The All England Lawn Tennis Club and The Championships and distributes £3m a year to local, national, and international charities helping to make a positive difference to people’s lives. The Foundation seeks to leverage the resources of one of the world’s greatest sporting events towards achieving its goals of: strengthening the local community; promoting healthy and active lives; inspiring the next generation; and responding in times of need.

Between 2014 and 2022 the Wimbledon Foundation has awarded £2,109,948 in 247 grants through its community programmes with The London Community Foundation.

Our partnership with the Wimbledon Foundation began in June 2014 with the launch of the Wimbledon Foundation Community Fund. The aim of the fund is to benefit the community and provide support for local organisations tackling disadvantage in Merton and Wandsworth.

Since we started working together our partnership has grown and we have collaborated on the Wimbledon Foundation Homelessness Fund, launched to mark the completion of the No.1 Court roof in 2019, which supports four local homelessness charities. More recently, during the pandemic we supported the Foundation in allocating emergency funding to 55 local charities caring for those most severely affected.

Strengthening our local community in Merton and Wandsworth is at the very heart of what the Wimbledon Foundation does. Since 2014 we have awarded more than £2m to local charities and community groups which we could not have done without the experience and local knowledge from the team at London Community Foundation. This was especially true during the pandemic when our partnership enabled us to react quickly and flexibly to ensure our funding was reaching those most in need in our community.
