The Deptford Challenge Trust (DCT) is a grant making charitable trust that aims to improve the quality of life for people who live and work in a defined area of Lewisham, including Deptford and parts of New Cross. They do this by providing grants to local voluntary and community organisations, from supporting small and new organisations with ‘seedcorn’ funding to encouraging the strategic development of the DCT area by awarding larger, multi-year grants. We’ve been working with DCT since the 1990s to manage their grant-making programmes. You can learn more about the Trust here (opens in a new window).
This has been an incredibly successful partnership, and since the Fund launched 20 years ago, over £4 million worth of grants has been awarded to support the local area.
I'm immensely proud to have been a trustee of Deptford Challenge Trust for the last 20 years and Chair for the last five of those. During that time we've been able to support hundreds of groups doing the most amazing work in our area and celebrate the individuals who give so freely of their time and energy to help the most vulnerable in society. Because we have very few restrictions on our grant giving we've supported groups working in a wide range of fields including education, health, refugee support and homelessness. LCF have been our eyes and ears on the ground for all of those years and we have an extremely strong relationship based on mutual trust and sharing of intelligence. Our income is protected in perpetuity so I look forward to many more years of working with the trustees and the remarkable people we support.Des Malone, Chair
