Update on funds allocated: Grenfell Tower

It may be helpful to give some further information about how the charitable donations to the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund (ESDF) have been distributed to victims of the Grenfell Tower fire.

It was announced this week that a further £13,000 per family was being distributed from the ESDF appeal monies.

This means that £5.2 million of the funds raised by the Evening Standard have been allocated within two months of the incident taking place.

The ESDF appeal raised a total of £6.2 million thanks to the generosity of readers and private donors. Of this, £3.9 million has been committed directly to survivors and a further £1.2 million has been allocated to the London Emergencies Trust for payments to next of kin and injured. £100,000 has been allocated to community groups in the area surrounding the Tower.

Russell Delew, chief executive of The London Community Foundation said: “Since the first few days following the incident, the Evening Standard Dispossessed Fund and The London Community Foundation have distributed public donations for the immediate need, to overcome hardship suffered by survivors of this tragedy. Together with the community groups we’ve been working with to give out funds, we have minimised bureaucracy to make the process as easy as possible for those suffering.”

We continue to work in partnership with the Charity Commission, Grenfell United and survivors of Grenfell Tower to ensure that the remaining donations raised by the ESDF appeal are distributed to meet the needs of those affected. The remaining unallocated £1 million will be distributed to survivors in due course. It is important that the time is taken to allow all survivors to come forward and for special cases to be considered, following such a traumatising incident.
